Price set at €30m for Arsenal and Man Utd target

June 24, 2019

Armando Izzo is a hot topic at the moment. The Torino defender had a fantastic season with the Turin club and has, deservedly, attracted the attention of lots of top clubs. In Italy, AC Milan and Lazio have been linked with a move for the Italian and, in England, Arsenal are said to be leading the pack, edging ahead of the likes of Manchester United and Everton for his signature.

However, signing him will not be easy. Reports from Tuttosport this morning suggest that Torino president Urbano Cairo is not prepared to part with his jewel for cheap; wanting a figure of around €30m from any buying club for Izzo's services.

A high fee like this is likely to discourage Milan and Lazio from keeping up their pursuit and may make the likes of Arsenal and Man Utd think twice before making their move. However, Izzo is a need for both sides, who are looking to strengthen their defences this summer and Cairo is clearly interested in making as much money as possible if he has to part with the centre-back.

I'll be back at Juventus 1000% - Ronaldo

April 22, 2019

The star striker vowed to return to the Old Lady after eighth straight Serie A triumph for Turin giants on Saturday
Cristiano Ronaldo has pledged his immediate future to Juventus in the wake of their eighth straight Serie A title.
The Portugal international striker, who joined the Bianconeri from Real Madrid in the summer, became the first man to win league titles in England, Spain and Italy on Saturday after his team wrapped up the Scudetto.
And while he had been rumoured to be considering his future after Juventus' Champions League exit to Ajax midweek, he put to rest that speculation after Saturday's triumph.
“Will I be at Juventus next season? ‘Mil per cento’ (1000 per cent)” Ronaldo said after the 2-1 victory over Fiorentina that clinched the title.
It was Ronaldo’s cross which was turned in by Fiorentina defender German Pezzella to complete Juve’s comeback victory.
The Old Lady had fallen behind to an early goal by Nikola Milenkovic, before Alex Sandro equalised before half time.
Ronaldo’s vow that he’ll remain in Turin was in stark contrast to remarks he made after he had helped Real Madrid to an unprecedented third straight Champions League last season.
Directly after Madrid's 3-1 victory over Liverpool in Kiev, Ronaldo said: “It was very nice to be a Real Madrid…in the coming days I will give a response to the fans, who have always been at my side.”
Those remarks were made on May 26 2018 and Ronaldo was unveiled as a Juventus player in July in a €105 million (£90.9m/$118.1m) deal.
The league title has come to be routine for the Bianconeri, and this one being sealed with five games to go asserts their absolute dominance over their domestic competitors.
Ronaldo was signed to bring Champions League glory to Juventus, who haven’t won Europe’s top club competition since 1996.
They came up short again in this year’s edition, losing to Ajax in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
They might not have advanced even that far had it not been for Ronaldo. Down 2-0 to Atletico Madrid after the first leg in the round of 16, Juve were staring elimination in the face.

'It's embarrassing!' - Mbappe's father fed up with Real Madrid rumours.

April 16, 2019

The 20-year-old striker is the subject of persistent speculation surrounding his future amid superb form for PSG and France this season.

Kylian Mbappe's father says the constant media speculation surrounding the Paris Saint-Germain star has become "embarrassing".
The 20-year-old has been hailed as one of the world's most promising players amid his incredible form in Ligue 1 and for France's national team.
Although he is just a year into his contract with the capital club, the forward is continuously linked to a move Real Madrid, who are looking to replenish their attack after selling Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus last season.
And his father, Wilfried Mbappe, says he is fed up with the relentless rumours and lies being about his son.

"Before I read and watched everything, but not any more," he told  Le Parisien . "It's like a chocolate cake, if you eat too much, then you get an upset stomach. Sometimes, there's misinformation too.
"OK, Kylian is a public person, but I do not understand that there are everyday things about him. It's embarrassing.
"I am no longer able to do things that were done every day. Sometimes we need peace. Today, everyone knows this name.
"I feel like I'm the same as before. Everyone here is like that, my children, my wife. We know where we come from. We stay the same. We almost kept the same friends."
But while the constant media reports about his son irritate him, Mbappe senior is delighted to see the World Cup winner shine among the best players in the game.
When asked who his favourite players are, Wilfried said: "My first is Kylian and my second is Mbappe! Even if I take away the fact that he's my son, seeing him play gives me so much pleasure.
"I loved the Brazilian Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Pele, Diego Maradona, Johan Cruyff and Ronaldinho. I love Neymar too. To see him play with Kylian guarantees a show. I go to the stadium to get my eyes full and get up from my seat!
"He has realised all my dreams: to become a professional and win the World Cup. I am also proud that he wears the No.10 for France. It was my number and also his at AS Bondy. I wish for him to grow and win things but they are no longer dreams."
Mbappe has moved from the wing to the central striker role at PSG and has scored an impressive 33 goals in 38 games for the reigning Ligue 1 champions this term.
Although he seems settled in his current position, his father says there is no need for him to be stuck in one role.

"Kylian can play everywhere, because his palette is complete," Mbappe Sr added. "Do not lock him in a box, he can play as a striker, on the right or left. It is especially necessary that he keeps this freedom of movement that he gets at PSG or France.
"He can do better in front of goal. Against Lyon[in October]  we talked a lot about his four missed opportunities before he scored four. But who has scored eight goals this season in a match?
"With Kylian we trivialise the exceptional! If he wasn't my son, I'd say he's doing incredible things for his age."

'He’s not adaptable' – Drinkwater told he'll never feature in Sarri's Chelsea plans

April 11, 2019

The manager says the midfielder should leave the club in search of playing time and even turned down the chance to depart in August
Maurizio Sarri says that Danny Drinkwater has been excluded from the team beacuse his "not adaptable" and does not suit the manager's philosophies.
Drinkwater has yet to play under the Italian boss, who took charge of Chelsea for the 2018-19 season following the departure of Antonio Conte.
The midfielder featured 22 times last season after joining from Leicester for a fee of £35 million ($46m) in September 2017.

Drinkwater was recently charged with drink-driving and been given a date for a court appearance after allegedly crashing into another vehicle after leaving a party early on Monday morning.
And Sarri says that there were no plans to integrate him to the midfield headlined by Jorginho and N'Golo Kante even before the recent incident.
"He knows very well, he has never played because in my opinion he is not suited to my system and my way of playing," Sarri said.
"I told him everything in August, he appreciated but decided to remain and so he knew very well the situation.
"He’s not adaptable, that is my opinion. My opinion is important for me. Kante can play with two midfielders because he is a world champion. With the three he is better on the centre right or left because I want a technical player.
"Jorginho against Brighton played 161 balls, for our way of football it’s important to have a centre midfielder that is technical and fast with the mind.
"Kante is wonderful for something different but not playing one touch."
Sarri previously stated that Drinkwater was free to leave the club as he would not be part of his plans, and that offer still stands for the midfielder.
The manager says Drinkwater still trains with the team, but Sarri says its still important for Drinkwater to find a new club sooner rather than later.

"I spoke with him in August when the market was open. I said to him to look for something different because in my opinion he doesn’t play. I said to him the reasons, my reasons, but he decided to stay," Sarri said.
"I have a very good relationship with him because in my opinion he is a good boy, a good player but he is not suitable for me."
He added: "I cannot do anything. A player usually just wants to play. I cannot do anything."

Ajax complete €12.5m deal for De Jong-replacement Marin

    April 07, 2019

    Razvan Marin Standard Liege

The Romania international joins the Eredivisie giants from Standard Liege but believes he and the Barca-bound midfielder are different players
Ajax have announced the signing of Romania international Razvan Marin as they look to fill the void left behind by Frenkie de Jong’s summer departure for Barcelona.
The Eredivisie club confirmed they landed the Standard Liege midfielder for a fee of €12.5 million (£11m/$14m), with Marin signing a five-year contract with the Champions Leaguequarter-finalists.
The 22-year-old has spent the last two-and-half seasons with Standard Liege after a January 2017 move from Romanian club Viitorul.
He’s netted 14 times for Standard over his time at the club across all competitions.
Marin will be among the players who will be tasked will filling the shoes of De Jong, who is set to depart the club this summer for Barcelona for a €75m deal.
And the Romanian is aware of the comparisons between himself and the future Barca midfielder, though he believes they are two different types of players.
While De Jong flourishes in a deeper role, Marin styles himself as much more of an attack-minded player.
“I want just to be me,” Marin told the club’s website. “I saw that everyone compared me with Frenkie but I think we are two different styles of players because he’s more in front of the defence.
"He stays there, he has good quality of passes, he can eliminate [players] during the games.
    Frenkie De Jong Barcelona
“I’m more dynamic. I like to go into the opposition box, to score, to help my team how I compete.”
Marin is likely to be among many new faces at the club next summer as Ajax face battles to hold on to many of their top names.
Defender Matthijs de Ligt has been linked with moves to some of the biggest clubs in Europe, while players such as David Neres, Hakim Ziyech and Nicolas Tagliafico have also been reported as transfer targets for teams in the top five leagues.
While Marin is now a confirmed part of Ajax’s future, the club’s present including De Jong has them remaining in a battle for the Eredivisie title.
Ajax currently sit second, two points behind reigning champions PSV.
They also are set to battle Juventus in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, with the first leg to take place April 10 at the Johan Cruijff Arena.

Barcelona’s reliance on Messi underlined in escape act at Villarreal

    April 05, 2019

FC Barcelona’s thrilling 4-4 draw with Villarreal on Tuesday has been hailed as the game of the season in Spain but yet again it showed the La Liga leaders’ vulnerability.
It has exposed the fact that FC Barcelona can be vulnerable whenever they try to give Lionel Messi a breather.
With a top-of-the-table showdown against Atletico Madrid and two UEFA Champions League quarter-final games against Manchester United coming up, Barca coach Ernesto Valverde understandably opted to rest his talisman.
Messi sat on the bench alongside Ivan Rakitic and Gerard Pique and, although Barca got off to a flying start with two early goals, they were pegged back by struggling Villarreal.
It simply prompted Valverde to turn to him with the score tied at 2-2.
No sooner had Messi come on and Villarreal took a shock lead before making it 4-2.
But, not for the first time this season, Barca’s captain spearheaded their comeback.
The Argentine smashed a freekick in off the post at the start of stoppage time, paving the way for Luis Suarez’s last-gasp equaliser.
“Football is incredible,” hailed the front cover of Spanish newspaper Marca, while daily Mundo Deportivo said Suarez’s late strike was “a goal that is worth the league title”.
But Messi’s role in Barca’s latest escape act was the third time in the league this season when he has been called upon to get them out of trouble.
It again raised the question of whether Barca suffers from `Messi-dependence’.
“Of course, Messi-dependence exists, it will exist in any other team in the world,” said Barca coach Valverde.
“But when he is there we also have to play. The first 15 minutes (when Barca was 2-0 up) we didn’t need him, in the last 15 we really did. We all accept this.”
