French commentator causes outrage with racist remarks towards Strasbourg star Da Costa

April 05, 2019

Daniel Bravo caused controversy with a remark on Wednesday, but was immediately forgiven by the Ligue 1 striker
French pundit Daniel Bravo caused plenty of controversy for a racist comment during Strasbourg's  win over Reims.
Bravo, a former Paris Saint-Germain player, was commentating on the match for beIN Sports as Strasbourg went on to win 4-0.
Following a goal from Strasbourg forward Nuno da Costa, Bravo said that the effort was "not bad for a black guy".

The comment caused immediate controversy in France with beIN rapidly issuing an apology for the remark.

"beIN SPORTS and its consultant apologise for the remarks made during the Strasbourg - Reims match, which can be considered shocking and are counter to the values advocated by the channel and its editorial staff," the statement said.
"beIN SPORTS recalls that it fights against all forms of discrimination, in particular racism, and promotes diversity, equality and respect through all its broadcasts."
Bravo also was quick to make amends, as he met with Da Costa after the match.
Da Costa immediately issued a statement offering forgiveness to the pundit, as he took to Twitter to defend what he saw as a one-time mistake.
"No worries, a slip of the tongue happens, he works too much! @beinsports_EN stop the games in the middle of the week please," Da Costa said in a tweet accompanied by a photo with the commentator.
The incident comes just one day after Moise Kean was targeted by racist chants with team-mate Leonardo Bonucci coming under fire for saying the forward deserved some of the blame for taunting the crowd.
Da Costa, a member of the Cape Verde national team, has scored seven goals for Strasbourg this season.
The club sit ninth in the league table and will return to the pitch on Sunday to take on Ligue 1leaders PSG.

Premier League: Liverpool to spend £261 million on agents

April 04, 2019

Chelsea (£27 million), Manchester City (£24 million) and Manchester United (£21 million) completed the top four.
The figures released by the Football Association come just a day before Premier League clubs are set to meet to discuss ways to bring down the amount they spend on middlemen.
The key measures being proposed are a ban on dual representation, the practice which has allowed agents to represent not only a player but also the buying or selling the club, in the same deal, as well as caps on fees and the reintroduction of an exam to become an agent.
Including the lower leagues, the overall spending on agents in English football rose £60 million to £318 million.

Why have Chelsea been punished?

Reporter Kaveh Solhekol explains why Chelsea have been given a two-window transfer ban.
Chelsea have been banned from signing players for two transfer windows after being found guilty of breaching rules about signing minors by FIFA.
The Premier League club have also been fined more than £460,000, while the FA face a £390,000 sanction that they will also appeal, citing "concerns" with FIFA's disciplinary processes.
The west London club were found guilty of 29 incidences of breaching article 19, which relates to the transfer of players aged under 18.
FIFA have given the club 90 days to rectify the situation concerning the players signed.
Chelsea say they "categorically refute the findings of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and will therefore be appealing the decision".
The appeal will be heard by FIFA Appeal Committee, while the club can also appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

FA statement

The FA has co-operated fully with FIFA’s investigations, although we have raised some concerns with FIFA regarding its disciplinary processes. The FA intends to appeal the decision. We will however continue to work with FIFA and Chelsea in a constructive manner to address the issues which are raised by this case. As this is an ongoing legal process it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.
Sky Sports News understands the punishments are a result of a three-year FIFA investigation related to the signing of more than a dozen players by Chelsea.

Chelsea will be able to sell players, but not register any new signings.

Hasselbaink: Hazard needs to say
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink says Chelsea need Eden Hazard to stay at the club in light of their two-window transfer ban.

"This ban applies to the club as a whole - with the exception of the women's and futsal teams - and does not prevent the release of players," FIFA said in a statement.
The transfer of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea should not be in danger as the player was registered in FIFA's Transfer Matching System (TMS) in January, according to Sky Germany.

Special Football Offer

Previous instances of similar infractions involving other clubs have seen the clubs involved appeal against the penalties, delaying the implementation of a registration ban and allowing them to sign players.
Chelsea were given a transfer ban in 2009 after there was a complaint about the youth player Gael Kakuta joining illegally two years earlier. Chelsea appealed that and had the ban reduced.

What does Article 19 say?

International transfers are only allowed if the player is over 18 - unless...
Player’s parents move to the buying club’s country for non-footballing reasons
Transfer is within EU or European Economic Area and player is between 16 and 18
They live in another country within 100km of the club
Chelsea said in a statement: "The club wishes to emphasise that it respects the important work undertaken by FIFA in relation to the protection of minors and has fully cooperated with FIFA throughout its investigation.

Potential Consequences of Chelsea appointing Nuno Espirito Santo.

March 27, 2019
According to The Sun, Chelsea are lining up Wolves’ Nuno Espirito Santo to replace Maurizio Sarri at the end of the season, with Blues legend Frank Lampard also being considered.
The Stamford Bridge hierarchy had reportedly been hopeful of landing Zinedine Zidane but, in a shock turn of events, the Frenchman was reinstated at the Real Madrid helm, replacing Santiago Solari; it was back to the drawing board for Chelsea, but they’ve now identified their next manager.
Neapolitan Sarri will only be given the boot earlier than the summer if the Blues’ top-four charge capitulates and if they are dumped out of the Europa League – regardless, it would seem that his days in West London are numbered.
Nuno has surely been catching the attention of the top six after leading his newly-promoted Wolves side to seventh in the standings and it seems that Chelsea could swoop in the summer.
What are the potential consequences, then, of the Portuguese moving south to Stamford Bridge? Read on to find out.

Conte’s formation restored

Antonio Conte won the title with the Blues in his first year at the club and with his side conceding just 33 goals and scoring 85 in the 2016/17 season, looked to have struck tactical gold with his 3-4-3 approach.
Things quickly went wrong, though, and the Italian was – perhaps harshly – given the boot. Since, Chelsea have returned to a more orthodox 4-3-3 under Sarri but if Nuno is appointed in the summer, then we could see the return of a Conte-esque approach.
Midlands outfit Wolves have been nothing short of excellent this season and are enduring all the success in a 3-4-1-2 formation, with Diogo Jota and Raul Jimenez leading the line brilliantly. It’s likely that the former goalkeeper would have some form of desire to trial this approach at a top-six club and Chelsea undoubtedly have the personnel for it to be effective.

Moses back in the starting XI

Victor Moses versus Liverpool
There has been no place for Victor Moses in Sarri’s plans this season, with Cesar Azpilicueta holding the right-back spot down. The aforementioned Conte revived the Nigerian winger when he took the helm, deploying the previously bit-part man as a wing-back, where he excelled.
The 28-year-old made 34 league appearances for the Blues in their title-winning campaign and then 28 the year after, but has recently joined the healthy cohort of loanees at Stamford Bridge – the former Crystal Palace and Wigan man completed a temporary switch to Fenerbahce in January.
It currently looks unlikely that he’ll feature for Chelsea again while Sarri is at the wheel but Nuno would  see use in the versatile wide-man. The Blues’ Matt Doherty perhaps?

Giroud stays

Olivier Giroud has made no secret of his dissatisfaction at Stamford Bridge since Gonzalo Higuain was signed on loan in January and looks destined to deputise for the Argentine until the end of the season, when it looks likely he will seek pastures new anyway.

The former Arsenal man is one of the most under-appreciated players in the Premier League and it’s remarkable that he doesn’t feature more in the domestic competition considering he has chalked up nine goals and two assists in nine Europa League games – the 32-year-old has been afforded just 685 league minutes from 21 appearances.
The towering striker might not be the most mobile forward but he does get the absolute best out of the players around him; just ask Eden Hazard, who labelled his teammate the best target man in the world earlier in the season.
Fans of Spurs, Chelsea and Newcastle name their club’s worst ever manager in the video below…

Wolves have their own Giroud at Molineux in Raul Jimenez – the Mexican is equally happy to tee up for others as he is to score himself and has seven assists to his name this season.
The World Cup winner could well be persuaded to stay in West London if Nuno is appointed as he fits perfectly into the system the Portuguese would likely look to install.

Unai Emery fielded a mixture of first-team regulars, including Lacazette and Mesut Ozil, and youth players as the Gunners came from behind to secure victory.
The hosts took an early lead when Ronnie Fernandez curled a brilliant effort past Bernd Leno in the 14th minute, but parity was restored just before the break as Denis Suarez, who played the full 90 minutes, set up Carl Jenkinson for the equaliser.

Emery made five changes at the break, reverting to a back three, and the Gunners were ahead after just six minutes of the second half, Lacazette finishing with his left foot after combining with Ozil.
James Olayinka, Tyreece John-Jules and Jordi Osei-Tutu were then introduced, with Ozil and Lacazette two of the players to make way.

And it was 18-year-old John-Jules, who has scored 12 times for the Arsenal youth teams this season, who grabbed the third after rounding the goalkeeper.
Julio Pleguezuelo handed Al Nasr a late penalty, which Khalid Jalal converted, but Arsenal, who face Newcastle live on Sky Sports next Monday, held on for victory.

"My objective with the players today in the first and second half was to get into their rhythm and continue with the work we've been doing recently. I think we did that.
"We are going step by step and also for us it is getting better. The adaptation for us first and for all the players in their work is getting better and we are keeping confidence.
"The players are also showing they wish to do something important this year. The key is now, this break is key for the next month and we are focused for this last month."

"It was an amazing feeling. I've been looking forward to this moment all my life, so I'm just happy that it's actually come off.
"It was a good feeling [to play for the first-team} because all of the hard work I've been putting in with the U18s, the U23s, my whole life, and then to finally come here… it's paid off. I'm proud and I showed the gaffer that he could trust me."
